    1. Movie Musings: Fun with Dick and Jane

never wouldve watched this movie if it weren’t for all the other dvds in the box looking like worse movies.  it actually turned out decent, light hearted humour thrown at very serious topics.  basically a buncha gags thrown together, i was pleasantly surprised by tia leone’s dead pan humour!  my favourite gag was their kid being mexican-washed, just never got old!

    2. Bookworming: Going Solo by Roald Dahl

throwback novel which I found in the shelves of ancient books at my relatives.  I’m such an avid fan of Roald Dahl !  I can see where all the animal characters in his children stories were inspired from.  as a sequel the book was pretty good, but i think nothing beats “boy” the original auto-biography.

The Diving-Bell and the Butterfly - Jean Dominique Bauby

written by blinks of the former editor of French Elle after his stroke, the short novel is too the point and each letter is thought out to the max.  Locked in syndrome is crazy, being fully conscious while in a state of complete paralysis is one of my deep nightmares for sure.   the accomplishment of still being able to pen a well written and cohesive book is more than amazing, it’s inspiring.  maybe life isnt so difficult afterall

    8. it seems we pitch our bids to what we think we can get away with, and don’t try to overbid on the hand we hold. The mating game is unforgiving: what you can achieve in this game is not just of your choosing - it depends on someone else choosing you…

..I suspect that most people actually have quite a realistic appreciation of their own worth in the mating marketplace and ask for traits in a partner that are much beter match to their real character than their descriptions of themselves (which tend to be overblown in order to keep their options as wide as possible)

Excerpts from the chapter “Are you lonesome tonight” How many friends does one person need - Robin Dunbar

Interesting novel that’s examines a lot of the same issues that Malcom Gladwell likes to write about.  I’m a sociology major so I like books about psychology and sociology, it was an easy read but the writing was just too simillar to papers i’ve written in highschool with lots of colloquial statements and questions to the reader.  Takes a very biological examination into ‘why people are the way we are’ but keeps things very casual.  I’m not a fan of the huge swooping statements and a lot of them are one sided to back up a point (hence why it reminds me of my highschool papers).  all in all, an interesting read to borrow from the library.
